Being the Competition

#FBF to 2015 – Jaime’s first CrossFit competition at World Camp CrossFit in Albany, GA.

“I’m not afraid of the competition; I am the competition.”

It’s a quote from my favorite swim team shirt back in the day. I swam competitively from age 6 through college. As a mom and wife, it definitely resonates more with me now as it’s easier to talk myself out of trying new things. In my early days of CrossFit, I was afraid of pushing myself too much. Those heavier Rx weights and handstand push-ups seemed impossible. But everything changed after my first CrossFit competition.

It started with finding the courage to sign up. It was both scary and empowering. But luckily my teammates (Lindsay, Sarah & Noemi) were a great support system and we all had the same worries. Game day came and we had to focus on ourselves and ‘stay in our lane’ mentally. I helped my team podium (we got 2nd Place!) in the Rookie division and that gave me more confidence when I got back to the gym. In my most recent CrossFit competition, I was able to Rx handstand push-ups!

You never know what you’re capable of until you try.
